Adobe Premiere Pro, AI innovates in audio editing

In light of the 2024 Sundance Film Festival , Adobe announced a new intuitive audio experience in Premiere Pro (beta) that makes editing faster and easier, saving time for experienced professionals and allowing newcomers to quickly access the tools they need.

New innovations in Premiere Pro available in beta include interactive fade handles on clips in the timeline, so editors can simply click and drag to create a variety of custom audio fades. Additionally, new AI-powered audio category labeling automatically identifies and labels clips with icons for dialogue, music, sound effects, or ambient noise, giving editors one-click access to tools most relevant for each type of audio.

Redesigned clip badges make it easier to see which clips have effects, quickly add new effects, or adjust effect settings. More modern, smarter waveforms evolve dynamically as you change track height, while improved clip colors make audio easier to see and work with on the timeline.

In addition to the new audio features available today in Premiere Pro (Beta), Adobe's innovative Enhance Speech tool , powered by artificial intelligence that instantly removes unwanted noise and improves poorly recorded dialogue, will be available for all Premiere Pro customers in February.

Together, these new features and innovations represent a major update to the audio workflow for Premiere Pro, allowing editors to create videos with high-quality sound and access the final mix in fewer clicks.

“Sound creates meaning and adds impact to film and video: it has the power to tell a story and move us in a way that images alone cannot,” said Ashley Still, vice -senior president and general manager of Adobe Creative Cloud. “We're proud to offer filmmakers new workflows that make audio editing more intuitive. So whether you're a beginner or a seasoned pro, Premiere Pro makes finding the perfect tool faster and easier.

New audio workflows improve the video editing process

Premiere Pro's new audio workflows give customers everything they need to precisely control and improve sound quality, saving editors time so they can focus on what they're doing better: tell stories. Latest features include:

  • New Essential Sound badge with audio category labeling : AI automatically labels audio clips as dialogue, music, sound effects or ambience and adds a new icon to give editors one-click access to the appropriate controls for work.
  • Effect Badges: New visual indicators let you easily see which clips have effects, quickly add new ones, and automatically open effect settings directly from the sequence.
  • Redesigned timeline waveforms: Waveforms intelligently adapt as track height changes on clips, while new colors make footage easier to play.
